Here comes the Bunny...

This week we made Easter treats to celebrate spring. We made sticky birds' nests. They were very messy but very fun to make!

As always we had a lot of fun making this new treat!

Cookies! Yummmy!

This week we had some extra raisins laying around. So we thought we would make some "healthy" cookies with a little oatmeal! It was really fun! We learned how to use a hand mixer and measure! But it just wasn't doing a good job, so we switched to our hands!

We all ate some delicious cookies and learned a few new words!

Knock knock...Who's there?...BANANA

In keeping with our cooking tradition, we made very delicious banana bread. Everyone got to take home their own loaf of bread to bake at home. We had so much fun making the bread and even more fun eating it!

Nom... Nom... Lucky Cookie Monsters?

Our cooking has begun again. We have made two really fun treats! Irish soda bread was to help us to be a little more lucky. We are still waiting to see if it worked... It was yummy in the process though!

Then we made cookies. They were not just regular ole chocolate chip cookies but M&M chocolate chip cookies. The extra chocolate made them extra delicious!

Art...SchmART... We are Smart!

Last week we learned a little bit about Madison and the FREE art museum! It was so much fun and who knew that Madison had so much culture?!?!

American art comes with new vocabulary and it very different from other cultures' art! But, it was ok; there was still some traditional art at the museum to make us feel right at home!

Chilean Snacks!

As we continue our tour of food around the world, we learned about Chilean Chapelele. It is a potato bread that was yummy.

We tried two different ways of cooking them and found that the microwave was the best! Although they weren't traditional Chilean, we sure had fun making and eating them!

Won't you be our Sweetheart?

MESLS is always busy having fun and learning English. This week we got ready for Valentine's day by making some yummy cookies!

It was a new experience for everyone learning to make frosting. Too much water and it won't stick to the cookies...too much sugar too sweet...BUT it was all fun and exciting.

Our cookies may be sweet, but our students are sweeter!

Food, Tours and Snow!

Last week we had our first snow day! :-O
We had a lot of ice, but it was good because it gave us more time to study!

In addition to a time honored Wisconsin tradition of a snow day, we got to visit the magnificent Wisconsin State Capital. Then we had lunch at a new Madison restaurant for Restaurant week!

To say that it was a very Madison week would be an understatement.

Check back to see what we are cooking up this week :)!

Traditional Chinese Dumplings in a modern space

Yesterday, we learned how to make traditional Chinese dumplings. One of our students taught us how to make this delicious Chinese meal. Although we don't have measurements for the ingredients, we sure have full and happy bellies.

Some students were better at wrapping the dumplings than others. One student from Korea taught us how to fold the dumplings Korean style. Another student folded them Colombian style. They all tasted delicious and mostly looked the same after they were cooked.

In our pictures, you will see all of the ingredients, the students folding and then enjoying!

Updates since December

Now that the "holidays" are over... we are ready to start posting again.

In December, right before Christmas, we had some fun making delicious sugar cookies and tea cookies dipped in chocolate. The students also got to meet one of the teachers' dogs. Fun was had by all and cookies were eaten, decorated and enjoyed by everyone!

In January, after we rang in the New Year, we started a new session!!
We have some amazing new students! They are from far and wide. We are excited to have them and can't wait for them to improve their English and do some fun activities. To start our session, we learned a little about our director's culture of Thailand, by eating some delicious Thai food.

We hope you will stay tuned to find out what we are doing next week!
