Midwest Horse Fair

Saturday, April 20th, the Midwest Horse Fair came to Madison, Wisconsin's own Alliant Energy Center. Horses, horses, horses!  Students learned all about horse breeds, styles of riding and everything equestrian.

Upcoming Free Class Series!

A MESLS volunteer teacher will be offering a five week free class series on photography! This series will begin May 15th and run every Wednesday afternoon through June 12th, 2013.  MESLS' photography class is open to all MESLS students, regardless of language ability!

New Glarus!

Saturday, April 13th, MESLS took an out-of-town field trip to New Glarus, Wisconsin, also known as "Little Switzerland." This quaint town certainly knows how to receive guests! A personalized sign welcomed MESLS international students. Traditional Swiss music, yodeling and demonstrations filled the early afternoon. Students couldn't have been happier to discover new cultures and cuisines.

Friday Night Fish Fry

Friday, April 5th, MESLS' students went down to Avenue Bar for an authentic Wisconsin experience-- Friday Night Fish Fry!  Delicious food, good friends and culturally enriching conversation... what more could you ask for?

Free Class (Pop Music!)


Friday, April 5th, a UW-Madison volunteer taught a class focusing on American pop music. Thanks to this class, MESLS Students discovered many famous American pop artists and classic hit songs. By analyzing the songs' lyrics, students learned new vocabulary words and idioms.  Fascinating intercultural comparisons filled the half hour that followed.
